On the 10th of November 2023, a deeply disturbing and inhumane incident occurred in the Ayepe community, where a group of men, assisted by four women, allegedly carried out acts of torture and assault on several young female minors.
According to reports, the victims — some as young as ten years old were deceitfully taken away and subjected to severe physical and psychological abuse. The brutal attack, which took place around 3:00 p.m., left the girls in critical condition and triggered widespread outrage within the community.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as heartbreaking, with the minors barely conscious when found. Residents condemned the act as barbaric, heartless, and a reflection of the moral decay spreading through society.
Authorities have since launched a full investigation to identify and prosecute all perpetrators involved. However, efforts to find curable proof and bring the culprits to justice have remained abortive till date, leaving many questions unanswered and justice still out of reach.
This tragedy also reopened old wounds from a similar event in 2012, when a 2-month-old baby, kassali basirat bolanle, and several other young girls; Abidemi Oluwaseun, Ajoke Morenike, Folake Temilade, Adebimpe Ayomide, Omotola Feyisayo, and Ronke Oluwadamilola tragically lost their lives under related circumstances.
More recently, on the 20th of February 2024, another heartbreaking case shook the Ayepe community once again deepening the pain and fear that already weighed heavily on the people. The horror of the incident forced some families to flee for their safety, afraid that history was repeating itself.
These recurring horrors have left the community in fear, grief, and outrage. They serve as a painful reminder of the urgent need for justice, accountability, and stronger protection for vulnerable children. All efforts to curb this act have proved abortive, allowing fear and silence to take hold once again.
