Tinubu taps Oyedele as Minister in cabinet shuffle

In a strategic realignment of his economic team, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance.

This high-profile appointment marks the end of Oyedele’s tenure as the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he gained national prominence for leading a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s tax architecture.

The nomination, which was formally communicated to the Senate on Tuesday through a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, triggers a significant reshuffle within the administration’s core economic ministries.

Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who previously held the junior finance portfolio, has been redeployed to serve as the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning.

This transition represents Uzoka-Anite’s third distinct role since the inception of the Tinubu administration, signaling a continued effort by the presidency to optimize cabinet synergy.

At 50, Oyedele brings a formidable blend of academic rigor and private-sector expertise to the federal cabinet.

A native of Ikaram in Ondo State, his professional journey is anchored by more than two decades at PwC, where he rose through the ranks to become the Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. His academic pedigree is equally extensive, spanning foundational studies at Yaba College of Technology and Oxford Brookes University, supplemented by executive education at prestigious global institutions including Harvard, Yale, and the London School of Economics.

Beyond his consultancy background, Oyedele has maintained a deep footprint in academia as a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School. His move from an advisory reform role to a direct ministerial position suggests a focused drive by the Tinubu government to translate fiscal policy recommendations into executive action, pending his successful confirmation by the Senate.
