President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accompanied by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday attended the Nigerian Navy International Fleet Review held at the Eko Atlantic Waterfront in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The President presided over the event in a ceremony that brought together senior military officers, government officials, and foreign naval delegations.

The event, which forms part of the activities marking the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary, showcased naval vessels in ceremonial formation as the service demonstrated operational readiness and strengthened maritime cooperation within the Gulf of Guinea region.

President Tinubu, who reviewed the fleet alongside the Chief of Naval Staff and other top defense officials, commended the Nigerian Navy for its continued efforts in securing the nation’s maritime domain, particularly in combating piracy, crude oil theft, and other transnational maritime crimes.

The Lagos waterfront event featured a coordinated display of naval ships and operational assets, reflecting ongoing efforts to modernize and expand the Navy’s capabilities in line with contemporary security demands.

Officials said the Fleet Review also provided an opportunity to deepen strategic maritime partnerships with allied navies, with participating foreign vessels joining Nigerian ships in formation drills and ceremonial sail-pasts.

The ceremony further highlighted ongoing reforms within the Nigerian Navy, including fleet expansion, enhanced surveillance capacity, and increased regional collaboration aimed at improving security across Nigeria’s territorial waters and the wider Gulf of Guinea.

Security was visibly tightened around the Eko Atlantic and Victoria Island axis as the President and top military leadership conducted the review, drawing attention from residents and maritime observers along the Lagos coastline.

The Nigerian Navy stated that the Fleet Review is a key component of its 70th-anniversary program, designed to showcase operational achievements, honor decades of service, and reinforce public confidence in maritime security operations.
