Tinubu nominates Tegbe as Power Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, pending confirmation by the Senate.

The announcement was made on Wednesday by the President’s aide, Olusegun Dada, who confirmed that the nomination has been officially transmitted to the upper legislative chamber for screening in accordance with constitutional provisions.

The nomination follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue an elective position, specifically the Oyo State governorship election.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga described Tegbe as a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across both the public and private sectors. A native of Oyo State, Tegbe is a former Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa.

During his tenure there, he spearheaded numerous initiatives involving institutional transformation, governance, and fiscal policy reform.

Currently, Tegbe serves as the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP). In this role, he coordinates bilateral development cooperation and manages engagements with public sector stakeholders to advance socio-economic development under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) objectives.

Tegbe’s professional background includes significant experience within the power sector. He has previously been involved in regulatory and institutional reform efforts with key agencies, including the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET). His appointment is seen as a strategic move to leverage his expertise in investment structuring and regulatory frameworks to stabilize Nigeria’s power industry.
