President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles for their emphatic 4-0 win over the Benin Republic’s national team, describing the performance as a demonstration of hunger, passion, and determination that has reignited national pride in Nigerian football.

In a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the President lauded the team while urging them to sustain their momentum as they pursue qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The statement reads partly: “While the job is not yet complete, I join millions of Nigerian football fans in wishing our team every success in the playoffs.

“The mood across the country reflects a shared belief that Nigeria deserves a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Canada, Mexico, and the United States will host.

“As your President, I assure you and the coaching crew of the Federal Government’s support as you strive to secure your place at the tournament. Nigerians everywhere believe in you, and I do too.

“We look forward to seeing you fly our flag proudly on the world stage.”

The President highlighted that the team’s resounding victory in Uyo has restored confidence in the Super Eagles’ capabilities and the wider Nigerian football ecosystem.

He further emphasised the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the players and coaching staff, stressing that Nigerians across the country remain united in their hope that the team will qualify for the 2026 tournament.
