President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday has commissioned three major infrastructure projects in Lagos State, marking a new chapter in urban development and administrative efficiency in the Ikeja axis.
The ceremony, held along the Opebi–Mende corridor, was attended by a high-powered delegation, including Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Hope Uzodinma (Imo), and Babagana Zulum (Borno), alongside lawmakers, former governors, and senior officials of the Lagos State Government.
Accompanied by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Senator Akpabio led a symbolic drive-through of the 5.04-kilometre Opebi–Mende–Ojota Link Bridge.
This transformative project connects the Opebi/Allen axis directly to Ikorodu Road via Mende and Odo-Iya-Alaro. Designed to decongest the heavily burdened Ikeja–Maryland–Ojota corridor, the bridge is expected to significantly shorten travel times and stimulate economic productivity in the state’s commercial heart.
“The Opebi–Mende–Ojota Link Bridge is more than a road; it is a bridge to opportunities. Improved mobility will benefit commuters, businesses, and the overall economy,” Akpabio remarked.
In addition to the bridge, the President inaugurated the Lagos State Geographic Information Service (LAGIS) Building.
This purpose-built facility is designed to modernize land administration through advanced digital systems, strengthening property rights and enhancing transparency for planners and investors alike.
The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex, the newly completed Multi-Agency Building at Alausa was also officially dedicated.
The complex consolidates several government agencies into a single, integrated environment to streamline public service delivery and provide modern office facilities, including parking for over 300 vehicles.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the projects as cornerstones of his administration’s THEMES+ agenda, which prioritizes traffic management and public sector efficiency.
He highlighted that advanced engineering solutions were employed to address swampy terrain and flooding during the bridge’s construction, while the administrative complex promotes a culture of inter-agency collaboration.
The commissioning marks the first phase of a broader program of inaugurations. Additional legacy projects expected to be unveiled include the Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle, the Maracana Sports Complex, and the Fresh Food Logistics Hub in Abijo, Ibeju-Lekki.
“These projects represent visible and meaningful governance that directly improves the lives of Lagosians. They reflect a government committed to solving challenges and investing in the future,” Akpabio added.
The event underscored the strong partnership between the Federal Government and Lagos State, reinforcing a shared vision of a digitally enabled, economically competitive, and globally recognized megacity.
