Tinubu appoints Prof Bunkure as VC of FUEZ

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Yahaya Isa Bunkure as the new Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria (FUEZ), Kaduna State.

Professor Bunkure, a respected scholar in science education, currently serves as Vice Chancellor of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education, Kano. His appointment to lead FUEZ was confirmed on Wednesday in a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga.

The Federal University of Education, Zaria, is one of four former Federal Colleges of Education elevated to full-fledged universities between 2022 and 2023. Under governing regulations, the Vice Chancellor will serve a single five-year term.

In a separate development, President Tinubu also approved additional leadership changes in the education sector. Engineer Abdurrazaq Abubakar Nakore, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and former Executive Secretary of the Rural Electricity Board in Jigawa State, has been appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano.

At the same institution, Professor Abdullahi Tukur Kodage, a veteran academic with decades of teaching and administrative experience, was named Vice Chancellor.

According to the Presidency, the appointments form part of broader efforts to strengthen leadership within Nigeria’s newly upgraded universities and ensure effective governance across the sector.
