President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School.
The appointment, which marks a historic milestone for the institution, takes effect from January 10, 2026.
Dr. Odusote, 54, currently serving as the Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus, becomes the first woman to head the prestigious institution since its establishment in 1962. She succeeds the outgoing Director-General, Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight-year tenure concludes on January 9, 2026.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Dr. Odusote’s appointment is for an initial term of four years.
A seasoned legal academic, Dr. Odusote brings over two decades of experience within the Nigerian Law School system. She joined the institution in 2001 as a lecturer and has risen through the ranks, holding strategic positions including Head of the Academic Department and Director of Academics before her role as Head of the Lagos Campus.
She obtained her LL.B. from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She also holds an LL.M in Company and Commercial Law from OAU and a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom, where she focused on Public Law and the administration of justice.
Her academic footprint extends internationally, having served as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University, UK. She is widely published in reputable local and international law journals and has been an active member of committees under the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
In her new role, Dr. Odusote is tasked with providing overall academic leadership, administrative management, and strategic direction across all campuses of the Law School. She will also serve as the primary liaison between the institution and key legal bodies, including the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the NBA.
The Presidency expressed confidence in her ability to steer the institution toward further academic excellence.
