In response to recent security alerts, the Osun State Government has approved the immediate establishment of a Joint Security Task Force (JSTF) to bolster safety measures and counter potential threats to lives and property across the state.
The decision was reached during a State Security Council meeting convened by Governor Ademola Adeleke and presided over by Deputy Governor Prince Kola Adewusi.
The newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Zungura, attended the meeting alongside other heads of security commands in the state.
Addressing the security commanders, Deputy Governor Adewusi conveyed Governor Adeleke’s warm regards and commended their steadfastness amid past security challenges, urging them not to relent in the face of emerging threats.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to providing all necessary logistics and empowering security agencies to ensure optimal protection for residents.
The Deputy Governor was joined at the briefing by key state officials, including the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Wole Jimi-Bada; the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina; and the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security, Mr. Samuel Ojo.
State authorities also called on traditional rulers to maintain local security oversight within their respective domains.
Reassuring the public, the Security Council emphasized that Osun remains safe and secure, while urging residents to remain extra vigilant particularly around vulnerable locations such as churches, mosques, and schools.
Stakeholders were encouraged to enhance security measures within their premises and share timely intelligence with security agencies to preempt potential attacks by bandits or suspected terrorists.
The Nigeria Police Force in collaboration with other security agencies, has been placed on a 24-hour red alert to neutralize threats.
The Ministry of Justice, the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) have also agreed to streamline collaboration to ensure that apprehended suspects are thoroughly investigated and promptly prosecuted.
The meeting concluded with special commendation for the new Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Zungura, for initiating strategic policing reforms since assuming office and for his personal attendance at the security council briefing.
