A 16-year-old boy, Mubarak Aliu, was on Thursday brought before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on a charge of allegedly stealing a laptop computer.
Aliu, who has no fixed address, is facing a one-count charge of theft.
Prosecuting Inspector Olubu Apata told the court that the alleged offence took place on 27 June 2025 in Ado-Ekiti. He said the defendant, together with another individual currently at large, is accused of stealing an HP laptop valued at N418,000 belonging to one Jemilu Sanni.
Apata stated that the offence violates Section 302(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He requested an adjournment to allow time to review the case file and prepare his witnesses.
Aliu pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Defence counsel, Mr Gboyega Abiola, appealed to the court to grant his client bail, giving assurances that the defendant would not abscond.
Chief Magistrate Taiwo Ajibade granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in the same amount.
The case was adjourned to 4 August 2025 for hearing.
