The Transmission Company of Nigeria, Abuja Region, has announced that its maintenance crew will carry out essential annual preventive maintenance at the Karu 132/33kV Transmission Substation starting today.
The technical exercise is focused on the 100/110MVA and 60MVA 132/33kV power transformers to ensure the continued stability of the region’s electrical infrastructure. According to the official schedule, the maintenance work will take place on Saturday, April 11, and Sunday, April 12, 2026, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. each day.
Consequently, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to off-take electricity supply during these periods, resulting in a seven-hour daily interruption for several residential and commercial hubs.
For the first phase of the maintenance on Saturday, the power outage will affect consumers in Karu, Nyanya, Jikwoyi, Orozo, Karshi, and the surrounding areas. The TCN has clarified that these specific locations will experience a temporary loss of supply while the crew works on the primary transformers.
The second phase of the maintenance on Sunday will shift the focus of the outage to a different set of communities. Residents in Gwagwalape, Maraba, Ado, New Nyanya, Old Karu Road, MTN Estate, Ruga Jule, and nearby environs should expect an equivalent seven-hour interruption. The TCN has assured the public that power supply will be restored immediately after the completion of the maintenance work on both days.
Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs for the TCN, issued an apology for any inconvenience caused to electricity consumers during this window. The agency emphasized that these preventive measures are a technical necessity to sustain reliable bulk power delivery and protect the long-term integrity of the transmission grid.
