The Executive Secretary of the Joint Revenue Board (JRB), Mr. Olusegun Adesokan, has paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) as part of the Board’s ongoing engagement with key stakeholders to support the effective implementation of the tax reforms.
During the visit to the National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, on Wednesday, 24th June 2026, the JRB Executive Secretary called for stronger collaboration between both organisations to promote data privacy, security, and sovereignty in line with the expanded mandate of the Board.
Mr. Adesokan noted that the Tax ID project, implemented by the JRB in partnership with the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), as well as other services provided by the Board, has created the need for closer cooperation between both institutions. He said such collaboration would help strengthen taxpayers’ confidence and trust in the management and protection of their data.
Discussions during the visit also focused on opportunities for partnership in capacity building, professional certification and strengthening data governance for subnational revenue authorities.
In his response, the National Commissioner and CEO of NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, commended the JRB for taking proactive steps to engage the Commission and explore areas of mutual interest.
Dr. Olatunji highlighted the importance of a strong partnership with the JRB, particularly given the volume and sensitivity of taxpayers’ data managed within Nigeria’s revenue administration system.
He assured the Board of the Commission’s readiness to support the JRB through its Virtual Privacy Academy, induction training, certification programmes for Data Protection Officers (DPOs) and the development of sector-specific data protection guidelines.
To further strengthen the partnership, the NDPC and JRB agreed to establish a joint technical working group to drive collaboration and ensure continuous engagement.
