The Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) has announced the successful completion of the tenure of its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Aliyu Tukur Tahir, effective December 31, 2025.
Following the expiration of his term, Engr. Tahir has handed over the affairs of the agency to the Executive Director, Corporate Services, Dr. Utsu P. Ashibel, who will serve in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive Managing Director.
In a statement signed by the Head of Communications and Protocol, Mrs. Ama Umoren, the agency disclosed that the handover was conducted in strict compliance with the Federal Government’s circular on end-of-tenure processes.
The circular, issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) with Ref. No. SGF/OP//I/S.3/T/39 and dated August 28, 2019, mandates outgoing heads of Extra-Ministerial Departments and Agencies to hand over to the next most senior officer to ensure continuity and adherence to due process.
The statement lauded Engr. Tahir’s leadership, noting that his tenure was characterised by significant strides in institutional strengthening, improved regulatory enforcement, and the automation of service delivery processes.
“Engr. Aliyu Tukur Tahir’s tenure was marked by notable strides in institutional strengthening, improved regulatory enforcement, enhanced operational efficiency, and renewed stakeholder confidence in NEMSA’s mandate of ensuring safety, quality, and compliance within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry,” the statement read.
NEMSA further reassured stakeholders and the general public that the leadership transition would not affect its operations.
The agency affirmed that it remains steadfast in delivering its statutory responsibilities, with no disruption to its regulatory, inspection, testing, and safety oversight functions.
The management and staff commended the outgoing Managing Director for his dedicated service and pledged to sustain the reforms and progress achieved during his tenure.
