Submit to probe over Kaduna funds – Northern youths challenge El-Rufai

The Northern Youth Frontiers (NYF) has asked former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, to submit himself to investigation over allegations of misappropriation of state funds during his eight-year tenure.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the National Coordinator of the group, Sama Musa, said leadership must be defined by humility and a willingness to be held accountable.

“Public office is a sacred trust, and those who occupy such positions are duty-bound to uphold the highest standards of integrity,” the group declared.

Musa warned that El-Rufai’s resistance to scrutiny undermines democracy and erodes public confidence in governance.

The youth group noted with concern that El-Rufai has so far resisted official efforts to probe his administration.

“It is disheartening to witness a former governor who once championed the ideals of good governance evade scrutiny when called upon to account for his actions. Such behaviour not only raises questions about his stewardship but also sets a dangerous precedent for future leaders,” NYF stated.

The group recalled that El-Rufai once admitted that his administration paid ransoms and supplied provisions to bandits, a policy they said endangered communities and weakened public trust.

NYF also faulted his controversial claim that his private security network was larger than the Nigeria Police Force.

The group stressed that accountability must never be mistaken for betrayal, but rather a duty owed to citizens.

“The consequences of his governance choices cannot be swept under the rug; they will demand accountability. We urge him to embrace the opportunity to clarify his actions and decisions, as failing to do so only perpetuates a culture of impunity that has plagued our political landscape for far too long,” the statement added.

According to Musa, engaging with scrutiny would help El-Rufai restore public faith in political institutions and promote transparency, which is vital for the progress of Kaduna State and Nigeria.

The group further urged all past and present leaders to recognise that true leadership is measured by humility, transparency, and accountability to the people.
