The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has officially inaugurated three of the five newly elected members who emerged victorious in the August 16, 2025 bye-election.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Tuesday during the resumption of plenary at the National Assembly in Abuja.
Those inaugurated include Hon. Omosede Igbenedion (APC, Ovia Federal Constituency, Edo State), Hon. Joseph Bagudu (APC, Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, Kaduna State), and Hon. Mukthar Rabiu (APC, Garki/Babura Federal Constituency, Jigawa State).
Two other lawmakers, Elegbeji Yetunde Ayoola (Ikenne/Remo Federal Constituency, Ogun State) and Oyekunle Fola Sunday (Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Oyo State), were absent at the ceremony.
The vacant seats were created by the death of former lawmakers Ekene Abubakar Adams (Chikun/Kajuru), Akeremi Olaide (Ibadan North), Oriyomi Onanuga (Ikenne/Remo), and Isa Dogonyaro (Garki/Babura), as well as the resignation of Denis Idahosa, who contested as the Deputy Governor of Edo State.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including the former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Phillip Shaibu, Lady Cherry Igbenedion, and Chairman of the North West Development Commission, Samaila Abdullahi Yakawada.
Following the swearing-in, the House went into an executive session to deliberate on the ongoing leadership crisis within the minority caucus.
