SIFAX Shipping Inland Container Terminal (ICT) is set to embark on the construction of a quay wall to enable direct vessel calls, a strategic move expected to significantly ease congestion at the nation’s seaports and redefine inland terminal operations.

SIFAX ICT Limited, a subsidiary of SIFAX Group made this known when it celebrated its fifth anniversary, commemorating five years of innovation, growth, and customer-focused excellence in Nigeria’s logistics sector.

Speaking at the commemorative event held at the company’s Lagos terminal, the Managing Director, Mr. Paul Linden announced that SIFAX ICT is set to embark on a major expansion phase.

“We’ve secured approval for direct vessel operations. Once complete, the project will redefine how inland terminals operate in Nigeria,” he stated. Furthermore, the company plans to convert most of its equipment to gas-powered systems for cleaner, greener operations, underscoring its commitment to sustainability.

Linden, described the facility’s evolution as a testament to vision, teamwork, and sustained investment.

“When we began, the ground was soft, there was no quay, and only a few warehouses stood. But we saw potential,” Linden said. “Today, SIFAX ICT is a functional, world-class terminal that reflects years of investment and teamwork.”

He recalled major milestones, including the commencement of barge operations in December 2020, extensive floor reinforcement, and the introduction of Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes, a feature rare among inland depots in Nigeria.

The terminal has expanded from 46,000 square metres in 2020 to over 82,000 square metres today, with operations now spread across two terminals (A and B).

Mr. Cashmir Ihedioha, Chief Security Officer of SIFAX ICT also highlighted the importance of partnerships with regulatory agencies such as the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

He noted that these collaborations have transformed the terminal into a secure and well-regulated facility.

The terminal has implemented a structured traffic system and installed 69 CCTV cameras for round-the-clock surveillance, ensuring it is fully compliant with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
