Shun corruption, uphold your integrity – Olukoyede charges Girl Guides

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has charged members of the Girl Guides across Nigeria to remain true to themselves and embrace ethical conduct to insulate themselves from economic and financial crimes.

Olukoyede gave this charge in Abuja while receiving members of the Africa Girl Guides during a study tour of the Commission’s corporate headquarters.

Speaking through the Deputy Commander of the EFCC, DCE Nwayinma Okeanu, the Chairman emphasized that Nigeria relies on the integrity of its young women to drive national progress.

“The only way you can achieve this is by being true to yourselves and doing the right thing even when no one is there to police you,” Olukoyede stated.

He urged the girls to build solid moral structures today to guarantee a certain future, encouraging them to become leaders that both Nigeria and Africa can take pride in.

Echoing these sentiments, the Acting Director of Staff Welfare Services, DCE Felicia Bot Timothy, enjoined the visitors to maintain accountable conduct and emulate the positive values they have been taught, noting that their future success depends on their actions today.

The study tour also featured a technical presentation on cybercrime by EFCC Inspector Kayode Eniola.

She defined cybercrime as criminal activities executed through digital communication tools and identified phishing, hacking, and online romance scams as prevalent threats.

Eniola warned that these activities lead to severe reputational damage and financial loss, advising the students to safeguard their digital footprints by using strong passwords and regularly updating software.

Concluding the session, the Head of the Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit, Assistant Commander Aisha Mohammed, provided an overview of the Commission’s mandate.

She clarified that the EFCC’s work extends beyond arrests and prosecutions to include deep-seated prevention through early engagement.

She also encouraged the students to act as change agents and ambassadors, urging them to reject false narratives about the Commission and strictly shun internet fraud.
