22 Oct 2025

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) is taking steps to ensure its staff fully benefit from the insurance scheme offered by the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).

The Executive Secretary and CEO of the NSC, Dr. Akutah Pius, has specifically called for a comprehensive sensitization program to educate employees on the details of the NSITF scheme.

The call came during a courtesy visit by NSITF officials to the NSC Headquarters in Lagos.

Dr. Akutah, represented by the Director of Human Resources Management, Alhaji Mustapha Zubairu, emphasized the NSC’s long-standing commitment to prioritizing staff welfare, citing existing positive insurance and health policies.

During the meeting, the NSC requested the NSITF to strengthen its legal framework to enable the Council to fully leverage and benefit from the scheme.

The NSITF team, led by Mr. Adegbite Oludotun, explained that the organization provides crucial compensation for insured government employees in cases of injury, disability, or death sustained during active service.

Mr. Oludotun expressed appreciation for the Shippers’ Council’s registration with the scheme and gave assurances of adequate compensation for employee claims and robust safety support.

The NSC’s push for sensitization and a stronger legal framework underscores its commitment to staff security and well-being.
