The Shell Pensioners Association, Lagos Chapter enjoyed a special wellness and awareness session put together by OneHealth in collaboration with the NNPC Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO) at the Eagle Club, Surulere.

The event held last week opened with general health checks, including blood pressure and weight screening, followed by aerobic exercises led by a fitness instructor from I-Fitness to warm up participants.

Declaring the meeting open, the association’s chairman and National President, Chief Tayo Opanubi, described the gathering as special owing to the presence of OneHealth and NNPC HMO.

During the session, a Pharmacist from OneHealth delivered a health talk on medication use review in managing chronic conditions such as hypertension, asthma, and cancer. Health kits, including blood pressure and blood sugar monitors, were displayed, while members had their vitals checked and questions answered.

Speaking with journalists, Mr. Paul Owoicho, Head of Business Development at OneHealth, stressed the importance of supporting elderly citizens.

“Retirees are our priority because many of them live without their children. They require special attention and monitoring of their health. Our platform ensures medications are delivered within three hours anywhere in Nigeria,” he noted.

On her part, Dr. Taiwo Dada of NNPC HMO, explained that the initiative was the first of its kind with Shell retirees in Lagos.

“Our retirees can now see the people who supply their out-of-stock drugs, and that gives confidence,” she said.

Chief Opanubi, who highlighted that the association has more than 10,000 members nationwide including 5,000 in Port Harcourt, 3,000 in Warri, 350 in Lagos, and over 70 in Abuja urged government and corporate bodies to emulate Shell’s model of extending healthcare services to pensioners.

He concluded by advising retirees to prioritize regular medical check-ups while encouraging the OneHealth and NNPC HMO to remain accessible and responsive to their health needs.

OneHealth, a leading online pharmacy supports NNPC HMO and numerous HMO enrollees with prompt and reliable access to medications has long served as a bridge between enrolled and providers. This Wellness Day extended that role by creating a space that reinforces the importance of preventive care alongside treatment.
