Shell backs Oloibiri Energy Forum as catalyst for change in oil sector

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd (SNEPCo), a major sponsor of the Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum (OLEF), has praised the annual event as a valuable driver of transformation in Nigeria’s energy industry. The company described the forum as a crucial space for advancing conversations around operational efficiency, cost control, and streamlining processes across the sector.

“This event holds a special place for the Shell brand, not only due to the legacy of Oloibiri but also because of the calibre of discussions it continues to foster within our industry,” said SNEPCo Managing Director Ronald Adams, in a goodwill message delivered on his behalf by Joe Mordi, General Manager, Wells and Geosciences Operations.

Adams expressed appreciation to the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) for their roles in ensuring the continued success of the event.

First convened in 1991 by SPE Nigeria Council, the Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum commemorates Nigeria’s first commercial oil discovery by Shell at Oloibiri, Bayelsa State, in 1956. The forum has since grown into a respected platform for shaping policy and innovation in the petroleum industry.

Reflecting on current developments, Adams pointed to Shell’s recent $5 billion final investment decision in the Bonga North Deepwater project as a continuation of the pioneering spirit that marked the original Oloibiri discovery.

“These achievements reflect our ongoing dedication to excellence — not just for ourselves, but for our partners, our country, and future generations,” he stated. “This year’s theme, ‘Driving energy sustainability through technology, policy and supply chain excellence’, speaks directly to that aspiration. The future holds promise, and we all have a role to play in shaping it together.”

SNEPCo’s support for the OLEF underscores its broader commitment to thought leadership and sustainable growth within Nigeria’s oil and gas landscape.
