The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance.
During the cplenary session on Wednesday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the confirmation after a voice vote at the Committee of the Whole.
Oyedele, a renowned public policy expert and economist, is slated to step into the role of Minister of State for Finance, succeeding Mrs. Doris Uzoka-Anite as the Federal Government intensifies its efforts to stabilize the national economy.
The confirmation followed an exhaustive screening process that saw lawmakers grill the 50-year-old nominee for over two hours on his strategies for economic transformation.
Drawing from more than two decades of experience working with multilateral institutions and global corporations, Oyedele framed his nomination as a call to service during a period of both profound fiscal challenges and remarkable opportunities.
He expressed deep gratitude to President Tinubu for the nomination, emphasizing that his career in the private sector and academia has been a preparation for this critical moment in Nigeria’s journey toward fiscal governance reform.
Prior to this appointment, Oyedele gained national prominence as the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he was instrumental in masterminding the enactment of a new, streamlined tax regime designed to improve the ease of doing business.
His transition from the tax committee to the Ministry of Finance is widely viewed as a strategic move to ensure the seamless implementation of the very reforms he helped design.
