Sen. Sunday Marshal (APC-Kaduna) has donated five trailers of fertiliser and 150 pumping machines to farmers, widows and vulnerable residents across the eight Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Southern part of Kaduna State.
Marshal, representing Kaduna South Sentatorial District of the state, presented the items to the beneficiaries on Tuesday in Zonkwa.
The senator was represented by Mr Christopher Haruna, Chairman, Distribution Committee for the items.
Marshal said that the intervention aimed at easing the burden of the rising cost of inputs on farmers, adding that it would create more opportunities for increased agricultural production and improved household income.
He added that initiative was designed to support farmers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, persons with disabilities, widows, and other vulnerable groups.
“We are committed to ensuring that this intervention reach as many constituents as possible.
“Those who did not benefit in this first phase should remain hopeful as arrangements are underway for subsequent interventions,” he said.
The lawmaker insisted that the initiative forms part of his efforts towards supporting farmers and strengthening food security across the senatorial district.
He explained that the pumping machines would particularly boost dry season farming and ensuring food security, improved livelihoods and economic growth.
The senator, who advised the beneficiaries to put the items into good use, warned against reselling them.
Mrs Justina Paul, one of the beneficiaries, thanked the senator for the gesture.
Paul, a widow, said that the items would enable her cultivate a larger portion of land in both wet and dry season.
