School kidnappings are engineered to promote ‘christian genocide’ narrative – Sheikh Gumi

Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has claimed that the recent surge in school kidnappings across Nigeria is deliberately orchestrated to push what he called an “unpatriotic narrative of Christian genocide.”

Posting on his verified Facebook page, Gumi said the crisis is not limited to Christian children, noting that Muslim pupils are also being abducted.

This statement comes amid growing national concern over the rising insecurity and repeated attacks on schools in various states, which continue to draw condemnation from religious and political leaders alike.

“The recent increase in schoolchildren kidnappings is engineered to serve an unpatriotic narration of ‘Christian genocide’, and sadly, Muslim children are also kidnapped,” he said.

Gumi described the country’s security situation as worsening, likening it to a “burning candle” that will continue until Allah wills it to end.

The cleric has previously linked school abductions to external support for terrorist groups and has stirred controversy with comments on alleged staged funerals and political tensions surrounding the attacks.
