Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the arrival of a new set of 24-car trains to strengthen operations on the Lagos Red Line.
In a statement released on Thursday via his social media account, the governor disclosed that the additional rolling stock would significantly enhance the capacity of the rail line, reduce passenger wait times, and ease daily transportation challenges faced by Lagos residents.
According to him, the deployment of the new trains forms part of the state government’s broader strategy to modernize public transportation and meet the growing mobility demands of the megacity.
“We have received a new set of 24-car trains to strengthen the Lagos Red Line fleet. This will improve capacity, reduce wait times and make daily commuting easier for Lagosians,” the governor wrote.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to developing a transport system that is efficient, reliable, and accessible to all, noting that investments in rail infrastructure remain a critical pillar of Lagos’ urban development agenda.
“We remain focused on building a transport system that is efficient and reliable for everyone. That is still our goal,” Governor Sanwo-Olu added.
The Lagos State Government has, in recent years, intensified efforts to expand its rail network, with the Red Line complementing existing corridors to decongest roads and provide safer, faster alternatives for commuters. The latest development underscores the state’s ongoing push to build an integrated urban mobility system capable of supporting its rapidly growing population.
