Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has formally installed Ibrahim Adebowale Saliu as the Onise of Ise Kingdom in Ibeju-Lekki, urging the new monarch to promote peace, unity and inclusive development in the community.

The state government presented Saliu with the Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment on Friday, formally recognising him as the traditional ruler of the kingdom following the death of his predecessor, Ganiu Adegbesan.

The presentation was conducted by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs Kikelomo Bolarinwa, with the approval of the governor and the Lagos State Executive Council.

Speaking at the ceremony, Agbaje urged the new monarch to reconcile members of the royal family and work towards strengthening unity among the people of Ise.

He said traditional rulers remained important to maintaining peace and stability at the grassroots, urging Saliu to use his position and experience to improve the welfare and development of residents.

“Make peace, unity and inclusive development the pillars of your reign,” Agbaje urged the monarch.

He congratulated Saliu on his ascension and expressed confidence that the new ruler would provide the leadership required to advance the peace and prosperity of the kingdom.

Bolarinwa said the presentation of the Staff of Office demonstrated the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to strengthening traditional institutions as partners in grassroots governance and development.

The ceremony attracted traditional rulers from across Lagos, members of royal families, community and religious leaders, lawmakers, government officials and residents of Ise Kingdom.

With the formal presentation of the Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment, Saliu has assumed the traditional leadership of Ise Kingdom, with expectations that his reign will strengthen unity and support further development in the community.
