Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has highlighted major economic, infrastructural and cultural achievements recorded by the state in 2025, pledging that his administration would deliver more developmental milestones in 2026.
Sanwo-Olu spoke at the 26th Lagos State Annual Thanksgiving Service held at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, with the theme, “Grateful for His Unfailing Mercies.”
The governor said the achievements recorded in 2025 reinforced the need for collective gratitude, noting that the year strengthened Lagos’ status as Nigeria’s economic nerve centre and an emerging global destination.
He listed key accomplishments to include progress on the Lagos Coastal Highway, the restoration of the National Theatre, the hosting of the E1 Lagos Grand Prix and the successful staging of GITEX Nigeria.
According to him, Lagos also emerged as Nigeria’s top-performing state in the 2025 Sub-National Ease of Doing Business ranking released by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, describing the feat as a product of deliberate reforms, infrastructure investment and policy stability.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that thanksgiving was a shared human responsibility, irrespective of religious affiliation, whenever peace, stability and opportunity were experienced.
He noted that the 2026 service marked the seventh annual thanksgiving organised by his administration since assuming office in 2019, acknowledging President Bola Tinubu for instituting the thanksgiving tradition over two decades ago while serving as governor of Lagos State.
Reflecting on challenges faced in 2025, the governor said the state recorded painful moments, including fire outbreaks and flooding, while sympathising with families who lost loved ones, property and livelihoods.
He assured residents that the government would continue to strengthen safety standards and emergency response systems, commending emergency responders and health workers for their sacrifices.
Looking ahead to 2026, Sanwo-Olu described the year as a defining period, with about 500 days left in the life of his administration.
He said the government would intensify efforts under the THEMES Plus agenda, supported by the 2026 Budget of Shared Prosperity.
The governor pledged to complete and commission major projects across health, transport, education, housing and infrastructure, adding that his administration was determined to hand over a better Lagos to the next level of leadership.
He urged residents to embrace gratitude, unity and hope in the new year, expressing optimism that 2026 would be a year of extraordinary impact for the state.
