Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday officially commissioned the Abiola-Onijemo Link Road and Bridge in the Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area.
The new road project establishes an essential link between the Abiola/Ajayi/Ogba and Obawole/Iju-Ishaga communities, aimed at easing traffic congestion and promoting economic activities.
While announcing the commissioning on his verified X, formerly Twitter, Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the Abiola-Onijemo Link Road is part of a broader initiative, with 36 new roads and bridges being commissioned across the state this week.
He emphasised that the project is more than just an infrastructural upgrade; it fosters unity, connects communities, and stimulates economic growth.
Earlier, the governor also inspected the newly reconstructed Alapere Pedestrian Bridge, which had previously been destroyed by a vehicle carrying heavy-duty materials.
The bridge has been elevated, rebuilt, and fitted with CCTV cameras for enhanced safety. Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the local community to take ownership of the project, emphasizing its importance for their well-being.
According to him, “Today, I officially commissioned the Abiola-Onijemo Link Road and Bridge in the Ifako Ijaiye Local Government Area. This significant project establishes a crucial connection between the Abiola/Ajayi/Ogba and Obawole/Iju-Ishaga communities.
“The road features a reinforced concrete bridge, complete with retaining walls. It includes carriageways, slip roads, walkways, and solar-powered street lighting, all designed to accommodate our growing population.
“Additionally, it incorporates a drainage system to address long-standing flooding issues, providing vital protection for the surrounding communities.
“The Abiola-Onijemo Link Road is just one of the 36 newly constructed roads and bridges we are commissioning this week. This project represents more than just infrastructure; it connects lives, fosters unity, and stimulates economic growth.
“As we move towards a Greater Lagos, I assure you that we remain focused and committed to building a state that works for everyone.
“Earlier today, before the commissioning, we inspected the newly constructed Alapere Pedestrian Bridge. Previously destroyed by a vehicle carrying heavy-duty materials, the bridge has now been rebuilt, elevated, and equipped with CCTV cameras to ensure safety and durability. I urged the community to take ownership of this project, as it belongs to them.
“I promised we would commission numerous projects to conclude the year on a strong note — and we are delivering. We are ready, hope you are ready?
“Together, let’s continue moving towards a Greater Lagos.”
