Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has granted FirstBank Group the official certificate to begin the construction of its state-of-the-art, eco-friendly headquarters in the prestigious Eko Atlantic City.
The announcement came during the groundbreaking ceremony held on Wednesday.
The towering 40-storey structure, set to become Nigeria’s tallest building, will incorporate cutting-edge technological features and eco-friendly designs, setting a new benchmark for Africa’s financial sector.
FirstBank described the project as an engineering and environmental marvel, aiming to provide not only a modern workplace but also a symbol of sustainability and innovation.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in his remarks at the event, commended the visionaries behind the project, including Femi Otedola and the board of FirstBank.
“FirstBank, as always, has taken the lead. I want to thank the visionaries who have created a new city that will serve as Africa’s model city — one we will all be proud of,” he said.
He further urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to consider similar approvals for other financial institutions.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, alongside the governors of Ogun and Ondo states, Dapo Abiodun and Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as well as prominent figures such as Aliko Dangote and the co-founders of Chagoury Group, were present to witness the historic event.
