Sani inaugurates new FRSC zonal office, commits to road safety

Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State  has inaugurated the newly built Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Zonal Office in Kaduna, reaffirming his commitment to public safety, institutional efficiency and improved traffic management.

Sani, who performed the inauguration  on Thursday in Kaduna, said the gesture reflected the state government’s belief that road safety was a shared responsibility.

The Governor  said d that Kaduna, as a major transit hub, depended heavily on the effectiveness of the FRSC to ensure orderly mobility and the protection of lives on the roads.

According to him, providing a conducive working environment for the corps will enhance coordination, operational efficiency and service delivery across the zones covered by the office.

The governor said the inauguration  aligned with his administration’s broader agenda of infrastructure renewal, human capital development and public safety, adding that safer roads were critical to commerce, access to services and social cohesion.

He said the state government had embarked on comprehensive transport sector reforms aimed at ensuring modern, regulated, affordable and secure mobility for residents.

Sani disclosed that the Kaduna State Government had deployed 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses for free mass transit, which conveyed over 1.4 million passengers between July and December 2025, saving commuters nearly N1.5 billion in transport costs.

He added that more than 200 modern bus stops had been completed across the state, while the Kakuri Modern Bus Terminal had reached advanced completion and the redevelopment of Sobawa Motor Park was ongoing.

The governor further revealed that preparations were underway to commence the Kaduna Light Rail Project in March 2026, alongside a Bus Rapid Transit corridor aimed at moving large numbers of people safely and efficiently.

Sani said the FRSC Zonal Office would serve as a critical hub for enforcement, emergency response, public education and intelligence-driven road safety operations.

Earlier, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, commended the Kaduna State Government for furnishing the zonal office, describing the intervention as timely and symbolic of strong intergovernmental collaboration.

Mohammed said the facility would significantly enhance the operational capacity of the corps and improve coordination of road safety activities within Kaduna State and the North-West Zone.

He assured that the FRSC would continue to justify the confidence reposed in it through professionalism, discipline and dedicated service.

Also speaking, the Zonal Commanding Officer, RS1 Headquarters Kaduna, ACM Ahmed Umar, said the new office would strengthen road safety operations across Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states.

Umar described the inauguration as a reflection of effective leadership and partnership, adding that the facility would improve emergency response, enforcement and public enlightenment on road safety.
