…as Osun Gov’t roll out free train service
The Management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced a temporary increase in train frequencies along the Lagos–Ibadan Train Service (LITS) corridor on Tuesday to accommodate the expected surge in passenger traffic ahead of the Sallah celebration.
The adjustments are part of a targeted effort to provide hitch-free travel for Nigerians journeying across the southwestern states to celebrate the festive season with their families.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Lagos, the Chief Public Relations Officer of the NRC, Mr. Callistus Unyimadu, disclosed that the corporation will operate six daily train trips on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, shifting away from the standard four-trip schedule usually running on that specific day.
According to the temporary timetable, train departures from the Lagos terminal will be scheduled for 7:45 a.m., 1:40 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. On the return end, departures from the Ibadan station are slated for 8:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m., and 4:30 p.m.
The corporation, however, clarified that this spike in trips is strictly a temporary holiday arrangement. The normal Tuesday timetable of four trips will resume immediately after the Sallah holiday period.
Concurrently, the NRC has adjusted its recently introduced Thursday operations.
Instead of the regular six trips, only four train trips will run on Thursday, May 28, 2026, during the holiday review period. The routine six-trip Thursday schedule will return to normal the following week.
In a related holiday transport intervention, the Osun State Government has finalized a paid arrangement with the NRC to operate its annual free Sallah train service on the corporation’s narrow-gauge corridor, ensuring indigenes of the state can travel home to Osogbo free of charge.
The special state-sponsored train is scheduled to depart from the Iddo Station in Lagos on Tuesday, May 26, while the return journey from Osogbo back to Lagos will take place on Thursday, May 28.
Reassuring commuters of its operational readiness, the NRC reiterated its commitment to providing safe, efficient, and reliable rail transportation services across its networks nationwide while wishing all passengers a peaceful and memorable Sallah celebration.
