A 30-year-old salesman, Japheth Aaron, was arraigned on Wednesday before a Kaduna Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing his employer’s N9 million.
The defendant, a resident of Goni-gora Kaduna, is standing trial on a one- count charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 2 at Jos Road along Ahmadu Bello Way Kaduna.
He said that the defendant stole the cash sum of N9 million, belonging to his employer, Jude Moses.
The prosecutor said that the complainant sent the defendant to deposit the said money into his account but he did not.
He said the defendant rather stole the money and absconded to an unknown destination until he was seen and arrested by the police in Abuja.
Leo said the offence contravened the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1m with two sureties in like sum.
Emmanuel ordered that the sureties must be of blood relation to the defendant with evidence of two years tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.
He adjourned the case until Oct. 26, for hearing.
