RwandAir expands fleet with new aircraft to strengthen operations, reduce delays

5 Sept 2025

RwandAir has taken delivery of two Boeing 737-800 aircraft, one of which has already commenced operations, marking a major step in modernising its fleet and improving service reliability.

The airline is also returning recently serviced aircraft to operation, while a third new aircraft is expected in the fourth quarter of 2025. These additions are set to enhance operational efficiency, reduce delays, and minimise cancellations.

RwandAir has faced several unexpected technical disruptions in recent months, which temporarily reduced the number of aircraft available for service. These challenges led to schedule adjustments that affected some passengers’ travel plans. The airline has now resolved the issues, returning the affected aircraft to active service.

CEO Yvonne Makolo said, “RwandAir is pleased to have addressed the operational challenges of the past weeks and to welcome our aircraft back into service. We sincerely apologise to all customers whose travel plans were affected and thank them for their patience while we restored full operations.”

She added, “The arrival of new aircraft will strengthen our fleet, enhance schedule reliability, and allow us to deliver an improved travel experience for all our passengers.”

The Boeing 737-800s are configured with 12 Business Class and 162 Economy Class seats and will primarily operate short- and medium-haul routes. In the fourth quarter, RwandAir also expects delivery of a wide-body Airbus A330-200, which will further boost the airline’s long-haul capacity and connectivity between Africa and global destinations.

The fleet expansion underscores RwandAir’s commitment to modernising its aircraft, strengthening its service quality, and expanding its route network. Investments in both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft reflect a strategic focus on intra-African travel and the airline’s ambition to connect the continent with the world.
