A governorship aspirant of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Rivers State, Blessing Fubara (Snr), has dismissed claims that he is acting as a placeholder for Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking during an interview on Super FM 93.3 in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Fubara acknowledged that the governor is his brother but insisted that they do not share the same political ideology.
He stressed that his decision to contest the governorship election is based on his personal political convictions and long-standing involvement in the state’s political landscape.
His clarification follows speculations that he could be holding the NDC governorship ticket in anticipation of Governor Fubara’s possible defection to the party.
The rumors gained momentum after the governor reportedly withdrew from the Rivers State APC governorship primaries amid the lingering political crisis involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
However, Blessing Fubara rejected the allegations, describing them as unfounded.
He maintained that Rivers people are familiar with his political history and contributions, adding that he has built his own political identity and remains committed to pursuing his governorship ambition independently.
