The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has ordered its members across the country to withdraw their services for five days starting Friday, 12 September 2025.
The industrial action, which will run until Tuesday, 16 September, was approved after the association’s National Executive Council met online late Wednesday and concluded deliberations in the early hours of Thursday.
In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by Dr Agbor Affiong, General Secretary of the FCT Administration chapter of the resident doctors, members were instructed to notify hospital authorities and comply fully with the strike directive.
The union leadership said the decision became inevitable following the government’s failure to address issues ranging from poor conditions of service and inadequate facilities to low pay and the devaluation of medical certificates.
NARD President, Dr Osundara Zenith, had earlier warned that doctors were prepared to shut down public hospitals nationwide unless urgent steps were taken to resolve the lingering problems.
Meanwhile, resident doctors in the Federal Capital Territory are currently observing a separate one-week warning strike, which commenced on Monday.
