The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, alongside Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, and former Minister Babatunde Raji Fashola, have underscored the critical importance of fostering religious harmony for sustainable national development.
Speaking on Friday at the commissioning of the Odo-Noforija Ultra-Modern Central Mosque in Epe, the leaders emphasized that peaceful coexistence remains essential for national unity and stability.
The First Lady, represented by her Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs and Strategy, Mr. Wahab Alawiye-King, noted that Islamic teachings emphasize compassion and the duty to serve humanity regardless of faith. She urged Nigerians to view the nation’s diversity as a source of strength rather than a cause for division.
Dr. Hamzat echoed these sentiments, urging Nigerians to pursue mutual understanding and to pray for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s guidance as he leads the nation toward prosperity.
Highlighting a unique aspect of the project, Babatunde Raji Fashola noted that the mosque was a collaborative effort between the Aladeshoyin of Odo-Noforija, Oba Babatunde Olaogun Ogunlaja, who is not a Muslim, and Alhaji Abdul Jelil Animashaun. Fashola described the project as a powerful symbol of unity, likening it to the religious tolerance demonstrated during the MKO Abiola era.
In his keynote address, the Etsu Nupe, HRH Dr. Yahaya Abubakar, expressed his wish that such inter-religious harmony could be replicated across every part of the country.
The Paramount Ruler of Odo-Noforija, Oba Babatunde Olaogun Ogunlaja, described the new edifice as a “divine fulfillment” and a beacon of hope for his kingdom. Guest lecturer Dr. Abdulhakeem Abdullateef further commended the monarch’s contribution, noting that such inclusive leadership strengthens inter-religious bonds and secures a positive legacy.
