President Tinubu nominates Lamido Yuguda as CBN deputy governor

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Lamido Abubakar Yuguda, the former Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), for the position of Deputy
Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

This nomination, which is subject to confirmation by the Senate, was announced on Wednesday, by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The appointment is made in accordance with Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007. Yuguda’s nomination follows the recent reassignment of the former CBN Deputy Governor, Bala Bello, who has been appointed as the Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.

In the official statement, President Tinubu charged both appointees to discharge their new responsibilities with renewed dedication, high professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s economic stability and growth.

Yuguda, a seasoned financial expert with over three decades of experience, served as the Director-General of the SEC from 2020 to 2024.

An alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he earned a B.Sc. in Accountancy, he also holds a master’s degree in Money, Banking, and Finance from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.

His professional credentials include being a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.

His career is deeply rooted in the apex bank, he began his journey at the CBN in 1984 as a Senior Supervisor in the Foreign Operations Department.

He later served as an economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from 1997 to 2001, before returning to the CBN, where he eventually retired in 2016 after six years as Director of the Reserve Management Department.
