As tensions within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) escalate, a source close to Ogun state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has alleged that the Governor has secured the express backing of the Presidency to dislodge Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, from his influential position as the PGF Chairman.
The internal crisis peaked on Thursday night during an extraordinary meeting in Abuja when a faction of governors purportedly selected Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, as their new chairman while Uzodimma’s camp maintains he remains the legitimate head of the PGF.
According to the source who spoke on the condition of anonymity, he revealed that the move to sideline Uzodimma stems from growing resentment over his perceived monopolization of federal influence and party roles.
“He [Uzodimma] has been arrogant and has been accumulating appointments meant for the Governors’ Forum for himself.”
“Because the President delegated many structures and powers to him, he thinks he knows it all,” the source said.
The source further suggested that Uzodimma’s recent removal as a convention chairman was a calculated precursor to his dwindling influence.
“Anyone who knows politics would have seen the handwriting on the wall. He was removed as the convention chairman and may even be removed as the Chairman of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors,” the source narrated.
