Pres. Tinubu reshuffles education institutions

President Bola Tinubu has approved a series of high-level appointments and renewals across key agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education, affecting the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam, and the National Library of Nigeria.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the President appointed Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Examinations Council, while retaining Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi as Registrar of the Council.

Professor Adelabu is a retired Professor of Educational Administration and former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State. She previously served as Chairman of the National Board for Technical Education.

President Tinubu appointed Professor Babatunde Salako as Chairman of the National Board for Technical Education and reappointed Professor Idris M. Bugaje as Executive Secretary for a second and final five-year term.

Professor Salako is a renowned academic and former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, a position he held between 2016 and 2024.

In the same development, Dr. Bongfa Binfa has been appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State, succeeding Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended in March 2026. His appointment is for a single five-year term.

Dr. Binfa, a PhD holder in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny.

Meanwhile, Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi has been reappointed as Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Library of Nigeria for another five-year term.

Appointed first in September 2021, Anunobi has led reforms aimed at digitising the National Library system, including the development of the National Repository of Nigeria and the National Virtual Library.

The Presidency stated that her renewed tenure is expected to ensure continuity in ongoing reforms, completion of the National Library Headquarters in Abuja, and implementation of the 2025–2030 strategic plan.

The latest appointments are part of the Federal Government’s broader effort to strengthen leadership and improve efficiency across Nigeria’s education sector.
