President Bola Tinubu has commissioned the main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), linking Ring Road 1 Junction to Ring Road 2 Junction in the Federal Capital Territory, as part of efforts to improve infrastructure and ease movement in the capital city.

The commissioning took place on Tuesday along the OSEX–Wasa Road project.

Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, said the project reflects his administration’s commitment to delivering practical results that improve daily life.

He explained that the government had focused on long-term development rather than temporary solutions, stressing that infrastructure remains key to economic growth.

According to him, “We didn’t promise shortcuts. We promised hard work and visible results that people can experience.”

He added that roads like the OSEX are central to creating jobs, reducing travel time, and opening up new areas for development in Abuja.

Tinubu also noted that the project continues earlier phases of the expressway, including sections previously completed from the Villa Roundabout to Ring Road 1, as well as other expansions already delivered.

He said the administration would ensure that ongoing projects are completed rather than abandoned, describing it as part of a new approach to governance.

The president also praised the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for pushing contractors to deliver the project on schedule and ensuring effective supervision.

Wike, in his remarks, said the road was awarded last year and completed within the expected timeframe through strong monitoring and commitment by the contractor, CGC.

He added that the project shows what is possible when government and contractors work with clear targets and accountability.

The minister also highlighted efforts to relocate traders from Apo Mechanic Village to better planned locations, supported with basic infrastructure.

He noted that many ongoing projects in the FCT were inherited but completed under the current administration, describing it as a sign of continuity in governance.

The new expressway is expected to reduce traffic congestion, improve connectivity, and support economic activity across Abuja and surrounding districts.
