Pres. Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the appointment of his long-time political ally, Alhaji Ibrahim Kabiru Masari, as the new Special Adviser on Political Affairs. This elevation marks a strategic shift in the President’s advisory team, as Masari moves into a formal Special Adviser role after previously serving as a Senior Special Assistant on the same portfolio since 2023.
Masari, a seasoned politician hailing from Katsina State, brings a wealth of experience to the role, rooted in years of active participation within the All Progressives Congress (APC). His deep involvement in the party’s administrative machinery includes his notable service as the Welfare Secretary of the APC during the tenure of former party chairman, Sen. Adams Oshiomhole. This background has long positioned him as a key figure within the President’s inner circle.
In his new capacity as Special Adviser, Masari is expected to provide strategic political guidance to the Presidency. He will be collaborating closely with Alhaji Yau Darazo, who has served as a Special Adviser in the administration since his own appointment in July 2023. By aligning these two veteran figures, the administration aims to bolster its political engagement and strategic outreach.
The official announcement, which formalized the appointment, was released on March 5, 2026, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
