POS operator docked for alleged misappropriation

A 33-year-old Point of Sale operator, Mary Komi was on Wednesday docked in  a Dutse Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly misappropriating N1.29 million belonging to her employer.

Komi who lives in Zuba, Abuja is charged with theft.

She however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Otobha Okpa, informed the court that the defendant’s employer, Mr Bala Musa reported the matter at the Zuba Police Headquarters on March 27

He told the court that the defendant was employed by the complainant as his POS operator in Zuba garage in Abuja.

He said that the complainant entrusted the sum of N1.46million to the defendant to use in running the business.

He alleged that the defendant converted the money to her personal use.

The prosecutor said that during investigation and interrogation, the sum of N170,000 was recovered from the defendant, leaving the balance of N1.29 million.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 289 of the Penal Code law.

The Senior Magisterate, Mrs Evelyn Dara. admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 and one surety in like sum.

She ordered that the surety must have a reliable means of identification and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

Dara adjourned the matter until Sept 15 for hearing.
