A female Point of Sale (POS) operator sustained severe leg injuries on Monday after a 40-foot container-laden truck lost control and crashed into a commercial mini-bus and roadside shops at Second Rainbow inward Oshodi, Lagos.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the tragic incident occurred along the service lane adjacent to the Police Tactical Team Station at Second Rainbow.

According to LASTMA, the truck reportedly suffered a loss of control while in motion, causing the massive vehicle to overturn onto a commercial mini shuttle bus before ramming into nearby roadside business outlets.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the truck, conveying a fully loaded 40-foot container, veered off its designated path and crashed into the commercial area, destroying a shop. The injured female POS operator, who was reportedly operating under a roadside canopy at the time of the incident, sustained critical injuries to both legs.

She was immediately rescued and evacuated to a nearby hospital by officers attached to the Police Tactical Team stationed within the area for urgent medical attention.

In response to the incident, operatives of LASTMA swiftly mobilized to the scene to manage traffic, secure the corridor, and coordinate rescue and recovery operations alongside other emergency responders and security agencies.

LASTMA further disclosed that the driver of the truck was promptly apprehended by its personnel and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and possible prosecution.

According to reports, recovery vehicles were deployed to evacuate the overturned truck and restore normal traffic flow by removing the damaged mini-bus from the scene, while operatives of the Orile-Iganmu Division of the Nigeria Police Force commenced documentation and preliminary investigations into the accident.

Despite the severity of the crash and the damage recorded within the area, vehicular movement around the corridor was said to have remained largely uninterrupted due to timely traffic management interventions by LASTMA officials.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, reiterated the agency’s call on operators of articulated vehicles, fleet managers, and logistics companies to ensure thorough mechanical inspections of heavy-duty trucks before putting them on the road.

He particularly stressed the need for proper examination of braking systems and other critical safety components capable of endangering public safety when compromised.

He further warned that negligence in vehicle maintenance continues to pose serious threats to lives, public infrastructure, and road safety administration across Lagos State, urging transport stakeholders to adhere strictly to established safety protocols and operational discipline.
