A youth leader of the opposition People’s Democratic party in the Ogun central senatorial district, Abeokuta, Ogun state narrowly escaped death yesterday evening when suspected thugs allegedly sponsored by a faction of the ruling party attacked his car while on his way home.
Atunwa Ismaila Adeyemi, who is the leader of the youth wing of the opposition party in the Ogun central senatorial district abandoned his car and ran for his dear life when the hoodlums waylaid his car and shot at him in a desperate attempt to abruptly cut short his life and career
Eyewitness account had It that Atunwa was attacked while he was trying to negotiate the Madojutimi bend that leads to IMA road while he was trying to link the highway on his way back to his house.
Atunwa was said to have abandoned his car in a hurry and fled into an adjoining street while his attackers shot severally in his direction.
Gunshot holes were seen by the side of his car which was left untouched by the gunmen after their prey had escaped into the thin air.
It will be recalled that Atunwa Ismaila Adeyemi had escaped series of attacks earlier this year and last year as a result of the prominent role he played during the 2023 elections where his party’s house of assembly candidate defeated the ruling party’s candidate with a landslide against public expectation
In the wake of the 2023 election, his office at the PDP’s secretariat was subsequently attacked and ransacked apparently in an attempt to attack the youth leader whose efforts was widely regarded to have been responsible for the victory of the party’s candidate.
In another instance of political thuggery, less than three months after the attack on his office premises, his house was also attacked by some unknown gunmen.
The ruling party in its response denied any involvement in or knowledge of the ordeal of the embattled youth leader face. The ruling party said it was too busy with governance and prioritises the equitable distribution of wealth in the state rather than wasting time on useless and baseless allegations and debate that leads nowhere.
The party also debunked rumours making the round that the orchestrated attacks on Ismaila were a revenge of a December 2022 attack of an APC caucus meeting during which an APC stalwart, Alh. Boladale Bello was shot by some unknown gunmen allegedly connected to the Peoples Democratic Party.
