Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has described the rising wave of insecurity in the country as a calculated political plot designed to destabilize Nigeria and discredit the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Governor made the allegation on Wednesday at the Government House in Benin City, during a courtesy visit by the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Edo State chapter.
Drawing a historical parallel, Okpebholo insisted that the current security challenges are reminiscent of the tactics employed against former President Goodluck Jonathan.
He argued that the perpetrators are fueling kidnapping and unrest to distract the Presidency, but vowed that the plot would fail as President Tinubu remains resolute.
The delegation, led by the State President of the group, Chief Benjamin Ezewere, visited to congratulate the Governor on his one year in office.
The Igbo leaders expressed their endorsement of Governor Okpebholo’s economic policies, declaring their alignment with his administration’s ‘SHINE Agenda’.
They also used the platform to appeal for government intervention in constructing access roads to the Monee Market along Agbor Road to boost trade.
Responding to their requests, Governor Okpebholo assured the community that his administration is already taking steps to improve infrastructure in business clusters.
He disclosed that work has commenced on drainage systems around the Uteh area and that the government is actively addressing the poor condition of the mechanic road.
The Governor emphasized that his primary focus is creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive, noting that a peaceful and friendly atmosphere is a prerequisite for economic growth.
He added that when the government supports business owners through security and infrastructure, it creates a legitimate basis for the state to earn revenue through taxes.
