Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Monday received a delegation of prominent opposition figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, in what is being viewed as a significant political realignment in the state.
The visiting group was led by Dr Sikirulai Ogundele, former chairman of the PDP in Ogun, and Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade, a former House of Representatives member and APM gubernatorial candidate. Their meeting with the Governor is widely interpreted as a prelude to their official defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the state’s ruling party.
Also present were Dr Ekelojumati, Hon. Olowo Fuja, and several influential grassroots organisers from various local government areas, underscoring the weight of the potential shift.
Held behind closed doors, the meeting was described as cordial and strategic, pointing to a critical political development as Ogun prepares for future elections.
Governor Abiodun commended the group’s willingness to support unity and progress within the state, underlining the APC’s commitment to inclusive governance and long-term development.
“This is not just a political alignment; it is a patriotic move aimed at reinforcing development, ensuring stability, and building a future of shared prosperity for the people of Ogun State,” the Governor said.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Dr Ogundele applauded the Governor’s inclusive approach to leadership and commended the infrastructural and socio-economic strides recorded under his administration. He affirmed that the visit marks a clear intention to align formally with the APC.
Hon. Akinlade echoed this stance, reaffirming the group’s readiness to support the APC’s vision and contribute meaningfully to Ogun State’s continued peace and progress.
The delegation is expected to make a formal declaration of their defection to the APC in the coming weeks. The move is anticipated to bolster the ruling party’s strength and further consolidate Governor Abiodun’s role as a consensus builder in the state’s political landscape.
