Police restore normalcy to Lagos-Badagry expressway after communal clash

The Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, personally led a joint team of tactical squads to restore order at the Oto-Ijanikin axis of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway following a violent communal clash between local youths.

The expressway, which had been blocked for several hours on Saturday, was reopened to traffic by 9:00 am after police cleared the obstructions.

During the unrest, one individual, Akinyemi Omo Akin, was reportedly shot and later died in the hospital.

The Command clarified that preliminary investigations suggest the victim was caught in a shootout between rival groups rather than being hit by a police bullet, as some initial reports had claimed.

In the wake of the intervention, seven suspects were arrested and a locally made pistol with live ammunition was recovered.

The Commissioner has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti to take over the case for a full-scale investigation, while tactical squads continue to comb the surrounding bushes for fleeing participants.

CP Jimoh warned that the Command will not tolerate any breach of public peace and urged parents to restrain their wards from participating in criminal activities.

Residents have been encouraged to resume their lawful businesses as a massive police presence remains on the ground to sustain the peace.
