The Ekiti State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of worshippers who were abducted during an attack on a church service at Eda-Oniyo in April, bringing relief to families and residents after weeks of uncertainty.
The victims were kidnapped on April 28, 2026, when suspected armed kidnappers invaded the Christ Apostolic Church in Eda-Oniyo, Ekiti State, during a worship programme.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the Command disclosed that the victims were rescued through sustained, intelligence-driven operations jointly carried out by the Nigeria Police Force, the military, other security agencies, the Amotekun Corps, local hunters, and the Ekiti State Government.
According to the statement, the rescued victims have been taken to a hospital for medical examination and treatment to assess their health conditions and ensure they receive adequate medical care following their ordeal in captivity.
The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, commended the dedication, professionalism, and collaboration among all security stakeholders, describing their coordinated efforts as instrumental to the success of the rescue operation.
He also lauded the Ekiti State Government, led by Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, for its unwavering support of security agencies, noting that the government’s commitment significantly contributed to the success of the operation.
The Police Commissioner further expressed appreciation to residents of the state for their vigilance, cooperation, and timely provision of credible intelligence, which aided security operatives in their efforts.
While confirming that all the victims had regained their freedom, the Command disclosed that efforts have been intensified to track down and apprehend those responsible for the abduction.
Falade reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state and urged members of the public to remain security-conscious by reporting suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency line, 08062335577.
The rescue is expected to provide renewed confidence in ongoing security operations in Ekiti State, even as law enforcement agencies continue their manhunt for the fleeing suspects
