Police rescue kidnap victim, arrest 5 suspects

The Nigeria Police Force has rescued a kidnap victim, identified as Jemila Ibrahim, and arrested five suspected kidnappers following a coordinated bush-combing operation in Edo State.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikedem, the victim was rescued on May 13, 2026, at about 7:30 pm during sustained security operations around Okpege River Road in Iyuku.

The PPRO disclosed that Jemila Ibrahim was abducted on May 10, 2026, before operatives intensified efforts that eventually led to her rescue.

The command stated that the victim was rescued unhurt and immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention, while the suspects were apprehended.

The suspects arrested in connection with the abduction were identified as Nura Saminu, 24; Shaibu Isah, 23; Suraj Sabitu, 23; Yajubu Sagiru, 23; and Oseni Abdullahi, 26.

Police authorities stated that the suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives involved in the operation for their bravery and professionalism.

He reassured residents of the command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.

The latest operation comes amid renewed security efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb rising incidents of abduction and violent attacks in parts of the country.
