The Kwara State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in crime-fighting efforts with the recovery of a stolen vehicle through the deployment of advanced tracking technology in Ilorin.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the incident was reported on April 27, 2026, at the Anti-Car Theft Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ilorin, that a Toyota Matrix had been stolen earlier in the day from a parking space at Mandate Market.
Acting swiftly, police operatives activated an integrated vehicle tracking and immobilisation system linked to the car’s security device, enabling real-time tracking and remote disabling of the vehicle’s engine, significantly aiding the recovery operation.
The vehicle was subsequently traced to the Jebba Expressway axis, where it was found abandoned by the roadside. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had attempted to evade detection by altering the vehicle’s registration number, while the original plate number was recovered nearby.
The recovered vehicle has been secured at the SCID, Ilorin, for further investigation. The Command disclosed that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the theft.
Reaffirming its commitment to modern policing strategies, the Command stated that it would continue to leverage technology and intelligence-led operations to combat crime and enhance public safety across the state.
