The Kwara State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers and recovered high-caliber weaponry following a co-ordinated operation in the Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The crackdown, executed on April 23, 2026, was led by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Team.
Acting on a foundation of credible intelligence, the police collaborated with local vigilantes and forest guards to storm the Oke-Iya community.
The operation successfully neutralized a cell responsible for a recent invasion that resulted in the abduction of five residents.
According to the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the arrest of the initial three suspects followed intense pressure that had already forced the escape of two victims from captivity.
The success of the Oke-Iya operation highlights a critical mechanical shift in regional security strategy: the transition to triple-layer interdiction. By integrating professional police operatives with local vigilantes and forest guards, the Command has effectively bridged the knowledge gap concerning difficult forest terrains.
Local guards provide tactical geography and knowledge of hideouts, while the Anti-Kidnapping Team provides firepower and legal authority.
This synergy creates a heated pressure environment, a mechanical reality where kidnappers find it increasingly difficult to maintain hold sites, leading to the spontaneous escape of victims.
The Police also recovered a locally fabricated revolver rifle adapted to fire AK-47 ammunition signals a dangerous evolution in improvised weaponry.
The adaptation of locally made frames to house high-velocity military rounds represents a significant threat to internal security, as it allows criminals to bypass traditional arms trafficking routes.
The arrest of the final two suspects, Mohammad Awal and Sani Mallam Musa, underscores the Command’s investigative depth, moving beyond the immediate scene to dismantle the supporting network.
As the suspects prepare to face court, the message from the Kwara Police is clear: the state is becoming a non-permissive environment for undesirable elements.
